Tavistock Cream Tea Week
For cream tea and crime thriller lovers, Tavistock served up a match made in heaven during the last week of June.
Local author Terry Green was called upon to judge the mouth-watering selection of entries for Tavistock Cream Tea Week, which is organised annually by Visit Tavistock to celebrate the town’s heritage as the home of the cream tea.
“What an honour to be asked,” he said. “And what a delicious selection of delights we tasted. The monks who doled out rustic bread and local clotted cream to the workmen rebuilding Tavistock Abbey in the 10th Century would have been absolutely amazed! They would find it hard to believe the many varied ways in which the tradition they started has been so cleverly and creatively reimagined by local businesses.”
Tavistock Cream Tea Week culminated in a Cream Tea Fete on Sunday June 28 and meanwhile Terry concluded his tour for National Crime Reading Month with a talk about his latest crime thriller, Dangerous Art, at Tavistock Library on June 26. But not before he had rewarded his tour “roadies” with a cream tea at one of his favourite haunts, The Bedford Hotel, in Tavistock – where Dangerous Art is on sale from reception, by the way!
